What can you expect as a TDCJ employee in 2013 ?

What are some of the issues the agency will face in the upcoming year, and how can it be fixed ?

  1. Shortage of staff like 2012, under paid like 2012,nothing fixed.... guess 2013 will be like more of 2012

  3. 2013 Short staff means the line will not turn out. That means millions of dollars to grow crops on TDCJ land will not be picked. That would help the food budget out. So maybe that saved money could give us more pay. It would pay for more english lessons to the FOB that are CO's.

  4. More of the same. Staff shortage, low pay and no increase in the new year, possible cut on benefits if the tea party legislature gets its way. This will all lead to the eventual end of TDCJ as we know it, because their ultimate goal is to privatize it.

  5. I believe TDC is headed in a direction that it has'nt yet seen. Staffing and employee moral lower then ever. The bad thing is that if our wonderful leaders act now it can be reversed. As we sit decreasing benifits, horrible salaries and low staff retention are not the right road. 1. Gov. Perry need to find a new line of work along with Mr. Livingston 2. our employees need to get out and vote.

I don't remember seeing Brad's name on the ballot, but I'll be sure not to vote for him next time.

  7. English will be the second, maybe third language of TDCJ, Huntsville will determine it's a "unit based problem". Livingston will put out a video saying we all need to become fluent in the new primary languages and Whitmire will release a statement saying he had no idea we used languages to communicate in TDCJ.

  8. since we're all going off fiscal cliff and price of dairy products will skyrocket, there will be less eggs and cheese at ODR. Plan on eating on your time if your shift does not have access to commisary.

  9. Ipe tomba will be our new language. We ran Ebonics off. I was just trying to learn Spanish. I'm so confused, I'm still an American, I think. They started counting the slices of bread in ODR that you get. Whats next?

  11. You know we used to have a government that was FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. In other words, the government was scared of the people who had the power to put into office who we so choosed. Now, the people are scared of the government and so they take every advantage of that, then dictate what we will do and when to do it. WHAT HAPPENED.

  12. Why do commissaries not have deodrant and toothpast to sell to inmates in the commissary? If, as I read, in 2010, inmates spent 7million (yes million) dollars in the Texas prison commissaries, how in the world can you justify not having the basics for sale?

    1. You can buy hygiene products and many other products needed for basic up keep if you have money on your commisary if not tdc provides the basics btw... 5 years and counting as a officer

  13. Sorry, typo, that is $75 million spent by inmates. I'd be curious to see any responses to that.

    1. The TDCJ records show in 2008 the tdcj population was 24,326,974 which we all know as the saying goes one leaves 5 more to replace him before he even gets on the bus to Huntsville... so going off of 2008 pop numbers and if everyone one of the offenders had money to spend on commissary that would come out to roughly 58 Billion spent so if they are only making 75 million that just proves over 60% does not have money so as a co I would not want someone let alone 100 offenders in the same work place for 8 or 12 hours with bad BO and rotten breath... Now the offenders do use the provided free hygiene products for many reasons that are not hygiene related but I am gonna have a bar of soap and a tooth brush and powder in my hand sending them to the showers if they stink I have to work around that for 8 hours and offenders live around that and if 60% could not afford it and we did not give it away free it is like heat when it gets hot tempers rise and trust me I have seen it happen bad oder smells rise tempers rise....

  15. I haven't stepped through a gate in over 6 years but it seems a lot hasn't changed! Place is like a soap opera! Some faces have changed yet same story line! I salute those who are there though! Show up everyday unlike the hooks who call in all the time! Get put on the crappiest pods day in and day out! Still show up your next block! Administration don't give 2 craps about you! Yet you keep truckin'. Many people may forget about y'all including your fearless director! But as for me I thank y'all! No 1 knows until they have lived it! I pray for you and may god bless you!
