TDCJ employees awaken New Years Day to less money in the bank

By Doug Glass, Backgate Website

For those of you who don't routinely check your bank account after each state payday to see that it's all there, well it won't be. As part of a last minute U.S. Congress agreement early New Year's Day, Americans will now give up another 2% of their hard earned dollars in Federal taxes.

Many employees who don't keep up with the latest national news awakened to find from $50-70 bucks missing from what they were accustomed to receiving each month. And it's here to stay! Happy New Year !

Check out this link to how it all happened in Washington.

  2. That sure helps staff shortages. But by the time obama is done with us we will be losing a lot more than just $70.

  3. The payroll tax cut was always intended to be temporary. Everyone should have seen this coming...

  4. Obama extended it and the republicans failed to extend it or make it permanent.

  6. Both Political parties had no interest in renewing President Obama's 2% Social Security Pay roll tax. We were having to borrow money from China and others, to receive that extra money in our checks for the last two years. It was temporary and was part of Obama's stimulus to the country. It is now gone and it won't be coming back. How ever we did keep the old Bush tax rates on those making less than $400,000.00 ,which is anyone working for TDCJ.

  7. Fyi.....let me make myself more clear....George W Bush implement it.....Obama extended it ...the majority in congress failed to extend or make it permanent. Please refresh my memory...who is the majority in congress?

  8. Most TDCJ employees are ignorent enough to vote for the political party that wanted to tax the sh!& out of the middle class. How does it make you voters who voted republican feel to know your party is pissed that the people earning over $400,000 are getting a tax increase and the middle class earners are not? Why would anyone ever vote for a group of people that want to make u eat sh!&?

    1. Republicans want to keep the money in circulation, in the hands of the people so we can spend it thus supporting business thus supporting jobs. This is why Bush created the economic stimulus plan in which every tax-paying person in America got a "stimulus check" to go spend as we see fit. Now, democrats just want to take that money and pump it into some overblown bureaucracy which does nothing to help anybody except those whom it employs directly. Tell me: how has YOUR life changed, for better or for worse, since Osama came into office? Raised (failed to prevent raise of) capital gains taxes by 33.33%. We now have "death panels" deciding who gets their medication. I know. I'ts happening to my wife who is (temporarily) on Medicaid here in Illinois. I cannot WAIT to get her to Texas, my home, where we can both work and have something in life. Be grateful you're in Texas. Thanks to Bush's economic policies Texas is now the "economic powerhouse" that it is and people all over the country want to go there.

    1. 2nd that!!!

Government has ceased to be government by the people and for the people. Founding principles went out the window.

    2. Second that seconding of that. At some point corruption set in. Probably about the time the Rothschild family were bribed with the deed to Israel (by Britain) in return for convincing our "elected officials" to bring us into WW1. Oh, then they were handed our economy on a silver platter in the form of the Federal Reserve which is no more "Federal" than Federal Express. Yeah, it stopped being for and by the people when we let that democrat FDR take all our gold so that the Rothschilds and Rockefellers and all their good ol' boys could take over the world's economy, funding both sides of every war since WW1, etc etc. Democrats. Hmph. BTW, if you like Earned Income Credit, that's a republican thing. If you like high income tax and big bloated ineffective INEPT government, that's a democrat thing. Already, 47% of Americans don't even PAY income tax and most of those get back more than they "put in" due to EIC and CTC. So y'all "poor" folks: quit complaining. Stop saying "I pay my taxes" because chances are, if you work at TDCJ and have at least one kid, you are NOT paying, you are getting EIC and CTC and coming out ahead on the backs of who? The rich, the ones who actually PAY taxes.

  12. I'm a former TDC (then it became TDCJ-ID) inmate. I think they really do the officers wrong. One officer told me "I'm locked in this place all day every day just like you are. I don't have any more choice than you do because there are no jobs in this town and I have to feed my family." They (TDCJ) build prisons in small towns where they have a "captive" audience, potential employees who have pretty much nowhere else to turn so they take what TDCJ will give them: not enough. Even inmates agree: we can improve the quality of the staff by increasing the pay and benefits, increasing training, and making the workplace safer and a little more comfortable BUT they won't do that because the inmates would be too comfortable. At least we can lay up under a fan in boxers while the officers have to stay fully dressed, walking around in a 106+ degree building, working all day, on their feet. That sucks. If they'd improve prisons, improve the staff, then maybe a few less people would come back. But when you have dead-broke guards who have to turn tricks and/or smuggle tobacco and drugs to make ends meet it only serves to reinforce the bad behavior of those inmates who participate in that. Makes it even worse.
