Will 2014 prove to be any better then 2013 with staffing numbers?

  1. NO HOW CAN IT GET BETTER WHEN FIRST OF ALL THEY DONT EVEN CARE FOR THE EMPLOYEES THAT HAVE BEEN HERE FOR YEARS BY RUNNNIG THEM OFF BY USING THE "PAT" TEST. AND TO THE NEW ONES THERE IS NO FUTURE IN COMING TO THE STATE AND STAYING WITH THEM BY PAY OR ANY OTHER REASON.......

It won't get better, but there should have always been standards. Much of the problem is for years there were no standards in the hiring process and we have managers who abuse the promotion process. Too many incompetent personal friends gets the promotions regardless of their lack of qualifications. Both the hiring process and the promotion process needs to be revised and then followed by everyone up and down the food chain.

If someone shows up and they don't respond or they just get in the way how does that make anyone else safer?

  4. I work at the Estelle unit and we are on mandatory overtime. The upper administration is terminating people that refuse to work overtime. Our unit is seriously understaffed and should be on lockdown, but the rank and administration falsify papers making the number of staff appear ok on paper.

  6. Well, I don't know if we're going to be short or not, but TDCJ has recently added more units to the bonus list, and increased the bonus...so.....I guess THEY think we're gonna be short.

  7. When will TDCJ realize that unless they up the pay instead of the bonus, then units will continue to suffer from lack of staff. Giving bonuses is only a temporary fix. How about better pay? Giving upper management huge raises compared to our 5% didn't help at all. Brad Livingston got a 40% raise because he is supposed to be the brains of TDCJ and yet he cannot figure out why the state is so short of Correctional Officers. He would rather pay overtime, up the bonuses and have more pre- service classes then give us a decent wage. Just doesn't make sense.

  8. Sounds like a lot of complaining. Maybe you'd enjoy being unemployed better. Oh that's right. If you quit then you cant draw unemployment. Sucks to be as miserable as you.

  9. DPS got a 20% raise. TDCJ got a 5% raise. The legislature has weighed in on what they think of bossman. They don't like him. The agency just drives on hiring the morbidly obese, welfare recipients, and fresh off the boat immigrants so they have names to write on a roster. In turn, the legislature likes bossman even less than they did before. Bossman with gumption and snap is lured away to work in the oilfield, or simply driven away by his trashy coworkers. Trashy bosses get promoted to become trashier sergeants. The admin gives them a pass. Good bossman gets promoted, and the admin tries their best to run him off. A quality organization runs off its crappy employees. A crappy organization runs off its quality employees. What are we left with? Crappy inmates, crappy bosses, crappy supervisors, crappy admin. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.

  10. Well I hear that the units who are mandatory OT are looking at NOT paying OT but giving it as COMP....WTF?
Who wants to work 2 days for FREE?
And you know COMP is good for 2 yrs. so using it will be denied.
