A male TDCJ Estelle unit Correctional Officer was pronounced dead at the scene of a one car accident last week after his car slammed into a concrete pole on an underpass. The accident occurred at North loop and TC Jester just before midnight Monday after the vehicle pulled out of a gas station, lost control, and hit the concrete barrier. The unidentified Officer was employed as a Correctional Officer at the Estelle unit and unconfirmed sources within the victims family stated that he was enroute to the unit to work overtime before his scheduled shift to avoid being mandated after his regular shift. The Estelle unit in Huntsville is just one of many critically understaffed units in the state where overtime is mandated for employees who will face disciplinary action if they refuse. Several Officers statewide have faced a similar fate after working mandated overtime, and there seems to be no end in site.
I'm a former TDCJ correctional officer, and it's really sad that all the crazy stuff is still going on within the agency!!!! I also spent 20 years in the Army ( Active Duty ) and going into TDCJ I thought it was going to be somewhat structured like the military. Boy was I wrong! The good officers were the ones always getting wrote up and the lazy officers were the ones treated and looked as KINGS! This officer seems like he was a good one. My heart goes out to his Family! The agency needs to contract out all of their prison farms and maybe things will be better. All the old hands are there just to draw a paycheck and screw people over, really sad but it's true. I refuse to stay there and let them ruin my name; that's all those Sgt and Lt are about. Half of them didn't know how to lead and manage people one bit, but they sure thought they did. I was a Senior Leader in the US Army and I know good leadership when I see it. They treat the offenders better than their worker. Good luck TDCJ!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteU are so right about that.
DeleteNot all old hands are just getting a check. Some are doing the work for three people and are trying to help people who should have never been hired. Please do not over generalize. This is party of the problem with TDCJ- not enough UNITY
DeleteHate to break it to you... Contract units are worse... They have a 90% turnover rate compared with TdCJ's 24% turnover. Texas is screwed up because they have no problem locking everyone up, but they have issues when funding this massive prison population. Until the prison population goes down, pay will not go up. Mass incarceration has lead to less funding being made available to pay officers the money they deserve. Private contract prisons companies encourage and lobby for more laws to lock people up.
ReplyDeleteWe need to legalize dope ans let the junkies shoot up as much as they want like Europe does. Europe doesn't have a major drug problem.
The State of Texas needs to sell off all its prison farm land. They waste more crops than what goes into the system. For years we planted the crops, then it never got harvested. The line never could turn out . The Warden said, they were short staffed. The pig meat was sold, then TDCJ buys it back. Big brother is getting a kick back. At least the chicken eggs went to TDCJ kitchens. TDCJ has so many unused obsolite equipment that just sits and rusts. They need to auction it off. They will not because the money goes into the Texas General Fund. They cover up all the paper work for the auditors. Dig deeper and you will see allot of tax payers money wasted.

ReplyDeleteAnother scam is how we are forced to buy office furniture and cubicles from TCI. If we were allowed to let our purchase orders go out for bid we could buy our furniture much cheaper than we currently do. TCI charges twice the amount as outside bidders, but the money never appears to leave TDCJ's overall budget because it is just transferred from one department's budget to another department's budget.
once again the Estelle leadership has blood on its hands.... but as usual they nor whitmire give a shit about the employees... I guess it is easer to pay the death benefits than fix the problem.. using time sheets to mandate who works OT. there are some that are told 5 and 6 days a week they have to work.. really? but we gotta staff this place. so the administration says... they used time sheets in 2011 to do the same thing and backed off under threat of a lawsuit.. maybe that is all this agency understands... just saying..... any lawyers out there????
ReplyDeleteLook I gave TDCJ over 15 hours a week free for three years. At three years I turned in 5 hours over time. It was approved to pay. The sorry warden and higher up gave me 6 months probation. For unautherized OT. How you like that. I had to work overtime to get all my work done. Or get written up for it not done. After that they only got 40 hours no more. Just go back and look at the sign in sheets at the front gate. I should be back paid. I loved my job. But had to get another one outside of TDCJ.
ReplyDeleteMay god bless his family. Thanks partner for your service. ...... sanchez unit co
ReplyDeleteMy company just closed down. Thinking about going back to work for TDCJ. Hell no, never again.
ReplyDeleteTDCJ is cursed with dark hearted leaders who truly don't care about correctional officers. TDCJ hires trash, then treats all the same. The only real incentive to stay working for TDCJ is low self-esteem. Even more so now with the upcoming changes to retirement. Shame on you TDCJ. Lookout public, another big mistake is brewing in your prison system. What will it be? Another Texas 7? Another Death Row escape? Another wheelchair inmate with a gun on transport? Or, something much worse? Stay tuned, you will see, watch!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that piece of shit TDCJ officer died. There is no difference between an inmate and an officer. I wish I could go shit in his casket preferably in his dead mouth.
ReplyDeleteMay God bless you.
DeleteThat person must be an inmate or a family member of the inmate.
DeleteYou should be ashamed of yourself.Fool.Respect the dead for God's sake.Bloody idiot
DeleteIt is rather unfortunate to observe that interior decoration and office furniture layout of modern offices are being increasingly approached in a disjointed way.
