Texas law maker has set her sights on the Governor's mansion

By Tonya Peters, Backgate Website

Wendy Davis, now nationally known as the Texas Legislator who filibustered to keep abortion rights at the forefront in the state, has now officially entered the Texas Governor's race. Can she garner enough votes to topple a Rick Perry style Republican? Davis, a Democrat, thinks she can. Will state employees support her ? What are your thoughts ?

  1. Can she garner enough votes to topple Rick Perry? Rick Perry isn't running. Can we hear something about Debra Medina, please?

  2. Her stance on abortion thrust her into the national spotlight. Being a darling of the national media doesn't mean the voters of Texas will support her in large numbers. No matter how much she tries to move on to other issues, her campaign will be forced to circle back to abortion time after time. It's her claim to fame, and her competition will make it difficult for her to be more than a single issue candidate.

  3. Perry is not running and Medina doesn't have the $22 million Rick Perry's hand picked replacement Greg Abbott has.

To end the 13 years of the Rick Perry political machine, TDCJ employee's should support someone with a strong pro-employee stance and that is Wendy Davis. She is the only candidate right now who has the ability to raise serious money to beat Perry's hand picked replacement. Perry was bad, but Abbott will be worse. Abbott has a strong history of being against state employees.

  4. Electing Abbott for Governor IS like electing another Rick Perry. Correctional Officers, Teachers and other state workers will once again be screwed if he steps into the Governor's mansion. I also think Wendy Davis faces a hard battle. She doesn't have the funds that Abbott already has, and money helps win elections. Although she is being endorsed by many Teacher organizations, big business is supporting Abbott. I'm sure Abbott will try to keep the focus on the abortion issue and most likely that will work for many voters. The most important thing any Correctional Officer can do is vote. Do your Research on both Davis and Abbott, then VOTE. We seem to have many that bitch, but few who take the time to vote.

  6. I agree that Greg Abbott is just an extension of Rick Perry's reign, except more conservative. Electing Abbott would be like re-electing Perry. With Wendy Davis, we have a fresh chance and a fresh start. She may be gotten known for her stance on Abortion, but she is actually for RIGHTS: women's rights, minority rights, teacher's rights and children's rights. Abortion rights and her filibusterer was just the forum she used. Big business is supporting Abbott because he will be their puppet in the Capitol Building. Davis has already proven she isn't anyones puppet. VOTE FOR WENDY!

  8. Never heard of Wendy Davis until her filibuster stunt. Looks like she's a typical politician that took advantage of free publicity for her upcoming run for governor.
